__Symphonie Jeunesse, a youth orchestra for strings is based in San Bernardino and serves young string musicians, ages 12 - 22 in the Inland Empire who are interested in serious advancement on their chosen instrument and collaborative playing and performances for the public.  Entry into the group is by audition only, in which students are required to play two or three major or minor scales, as many octaves as they know; a prepared piece of their choosing and sight-reading an excerpt of the director's  choosing.

We are proud of the things we have been able to accomplish, and the things we have been able to offer to our students during the period that Symphonie Jeunesse has been active.
  • We began five years ago in the Spring of 2008 with twelve young musicians auditioning.  In 2012, we now have thirty five members.  Many additional members have graduated and gone on to college or university.
  • We have been able to provide scholarships to all who are accepted into the orchestra by audition for all five years since our inception.  That has been a strong vision and goal of the organization.
  • We also provide the music that they practice and perform with no cost to the students.
  • We provide replacement strings, mutes and music stands.
  • We provide opportunities with visiting guest artists who come to San Bernardino County to host workshops with my students so that the students receive the benefit of small group instruction with professionals.  The majority of students who audition cannot afford the benefit of private instruction on their chosen instrument.  It is a goal to be able to eventually provide that instruction to them.
  • We provide opportunity for them to hear professional performing chamber ensembles.
  • We provide professional venues for them to perform in.
  • We arrange and provide tours for them to play in outside communities.

In five years, some of the organizations we have played for:  First Five, Molina Health Care, CASA, Redlands Chamber Music Society, San Bernardino County Museum, Fullerton Art Gallery, San Bernardino County Latin Music Festival, Sturges Center for the Performing Arts, City of San Bernardino Bicentennial Gala, San Bernardino Juried Art Festival at the Orange Show, The Southern California Gas Company, San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra, City of San Bernardino Ten Year Commemorative of September 11th at City Hall, Kiwanis of Greater San Bernardino, Sunset Rotary, San Bernardino Symphony Guild, Humane Society of San Bernardino, Disney Community Arts Showcase~~2009, 2010, 2011, California State University San Bernardino, Assembly Member, Wilmer Amina Carter, 62nd District, Arroyo Valley High School CORE Academy Collaborative, and the Journey to Teaching Workshop, CSUSB.

To make these opportunities for performance  possible we need the support of  individuals who make up our audiences but also of those community members who recognize that this kind of organization and this kind of activity is what in fact creates a  community. They deserves support whether one's own child is an orchestra member or not or  and even whether one can attend the concerts or not. It's about giving our students all the resources they need to to be able to learn, grow, and perform,  and that - more importantly - helps them to become successful individuals and community members themselves.
